Hearthstone announces Monk class for March 2027
Blizzard has revealed Monk as Hearthstone’s next playable class, with Chen Stormstout leading the class into the Tavern in March 2027.
Monk is coming to Hearthstone in March 2027, Blizzard announced in its [official BlizzCon 2026 recap](https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/article/24302069/blizzcon-2026-monk-joins-hearthstone-the-old-gods-return-and-more). Blizzard describes Monk as agile and adaptable, promising a new way to play rather than simply another coat of paint for an existing class.
The reveal is fronted by Chen Stormstout, the pandaren brewmaster familiar from Warcraft. Blizzard’s teaser confirms Chen as the class’s arrival point, but it has not yet published a complete card list or explained every part of Monk’s final kit.
Monk is arriving alongside a wider set of Hearthstone news. Blizzard has also announced Reign of the Black Empire, a new expansion themed around the Old Gods, with a cinematic trailer and card reveals. The expansion is scheduled for October 10, before Monk reaches the game next year.
The longer wait is probably deliberate. Blizzard says Monk’s fluid playstyle and adaptable nature will be explored before the class arrives, leaving time for the studio to show how it will work within Hearthstone’s familiar rules without turning every match into a kung-fu spreadsheet.
Our opinion
A new class is a proper event in Hearthstone, and Monk is a sensible fit for a game that has always enjoyed turning Warcraft’s stranger corners into card-game chaos. Chen’s arrival has our attention; the real verdict can wait until Blizzard shows whether “agile and adaptable” means genuinely flexible strategy or just another excuse to print a card that does six things at once.
