Gray Zone Warfare 0.5 update adds smuggling and a soft wipe
Gray Zone Warfare leaves pre-alpha behind on 22 October with Update 0.5, a build that adds hideout crafting and smuggling runs alongside a soft wipe that clears lockers but keeps progress.

MADFINGER Games has dated Update 0.5: Rogue Ops for Gray Zone Warfare, and it is the patch that finally takes the tactical shooter out of pre-alpha. Rogue Ops lands on 22 October, with a Supporter Preview opening three days early, on 19 October, for anyone holding a Supporter Edition.
The headline addition is a new progression loop built around a Hideout. Players craft, build the space out and, in a first for the shooter, take on the role of a rogue PMC running smuggling operations across Lamang. The studio frames Rogue Ops as the start of a long list of community-requested changes and fresh content rather than a single feature drop.
A soft wipe, and one permanent choice
Rogue Ops arrives with a soft wipe. Anyone who played Update 0.4 keeps their rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels and completed tasks; their locker and their money are cleared. MADFINGER says the point is to rebalance the in-game economy while letting players keep the progression they earned.
The decision that matters comes at first login. Entering either the Supporter Preview or the full release means choosing whether existing character progression moves to PvE or PvEvP, and the choice cannot be reversed. Update 0.5 also raises the character limit to four, each with its own mode and faction.
Devlogs, livestreams and a discount
The rollout is spread across October. A three-part devlog series covers player-driven improvements, new content and new features, followed by a Q&A livestream with the development team that also opens the Supporter Preview. A second livestream lands on release day with an in-game event, special guests and Twitch drops.
Gray Zone Warfare is 33% off on Steam from 1 October until 8 October. MADFINGER calls it the last chance to pick up the Supporter Edition at a lower price before the preview begins.
Our opinion
A soft wipe is the honest version of a reset, and MADFINGER has drawn the line in a sensible place: keep the hours, clear the wallet. Forcing every player to pick, once and for all, between PvE and PvEvP is the bolder call. It protects the extraction crowd from the people who would rather not be shot in the back, but it also splits a community that has spent two years sharing one island, and no weapon on the new list will matter as much as getting that split right.
