HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact Version 7.1, titled “A Rekviem for the Underworld”, will launch on 23 September. The update pushes the story deeper into Snezhnaya while bringing a major festival back to Liyue.

The new Archon Quest continues the crisis in Snezhnaya and sets players against Ronova, the Ruler of Death. The update also adds Ronova as a new Weekly Boss, while finishing the quest will award 620 Primogems.

Version 7.1 introduces two five-star characters. Vesna is a five-star Anemo Sword wielder and the youngest commander in Druzhna history, while Vodyanitsa is a five-star Hydro Catalyst wielder who can explore in her Water Imp form.

Skirk and Escoffier return in the update’s second phase. Liyue’s Moonchase Festival also returns after five years, with Yilong Wharf transformed for the celebrations and new anniversary rewards available.

Genshin Impact Version 7.1 will be available on Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Our opinion

Version 7.1 looks like a useful mixture of story escalation, new characters and a long-awaited festival return. The Snezhnaya plot is doing the heavy lifting, but bringing Moonchase back gives the update a warmer centre than another procession of battles.
