Fable PC requirements are surprisingly reasonable — until you aim for 4K
Playground Games lists 12GB RAM, an RTX 2060-class GPU and 135GB of SSD space for Fable, but 4K performance remains unconfirmed.
Fable is shaping up to be less demanding on PC than its fairy-tale setting might suggest. Playground Games has published system requirements ahead of the reboot’s 23 February 2027 launch, and the minimum specification is surprisingly approachable — right up until you start dreaming about a pristine 4K adventure.
What’s actually going on: the official Steam listing names Windows 10 22H2, 12GB of RAM, a Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i7-6850K processor, and a Radeon RX 6600, RTX 5050, RTX 2060 or Intel A580 graphics card as the minimum target. You’ll also need DirectX 12, 135GB of storage and, importantly, an SSD.
The recommended specification moves to a Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel i5-11600KF, 16GB of RAM and either a Radeon RX 6700 XT or RTX 3060 Ti. Steam also lists DLSS, FSR, uncapped PC frame rates and 4K support on compatible hardware. The German storefront currently lists the game at €69.99, although pricing varies by region.
Why you should care: 135GB is a sizeable install, but the graphics requirement is not outrageous for a modern open-world release. The sensible reading is that 1080p and sensible settings should be within reach for a broad range of gaming PCs. The listing does not, however, promise a particular frame rate at 4K, and third-party claims that an RTX 5080 is required for 4K/60fps remain unconfirmed.
That distinction matters. “Supports 4K” can mean anything from a comfortable high-refresh experience to a technically valid setting that requires compromises. Until Playground Games publishes more detailed performance targets, PC players should treat the recommended specification as the useful baseline rather than a guarantee of maximum-quality 4K performance.
Our opinion
The early requirements are encouraging: Fable does not appear to demand a monster PC just to boot, which is a nice change from the usual hardware arms race. The 135GB SSD requirement is the real wallet-adjacent sting, while 4K buyers should wait for proper performance testing. For everyone else, this looks like a promisingly reasonable PC launch — on paper, at least.
