Earth Defense Force 6.2 storms PS5 on 18 March 2027
D3 Publisher has dated Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World for 18 March 2027 on PS5, with four-player co-op and a Tokyo Game Show demo.

D3 Publisher has put a date on its next bug hunt. Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World arrives on PlayStation 5 in Japan on 18 March 2027, priced at 7,700 yen for the standard edition or 9,900 yen for the digital Deluxe Edition, both tax included.
This one is not a numbered sequel. Sandlot, the studio that has built the series since the PlayStation 2 era, has taken 2022's Earth Defense Force 6 and reworked it specifically for PS5 hardware - the publisher's own description is a powered-up and expanded version of the last game, with evolving visuals and additional systems bolted on. For anyone who has already spent a few hundred hours repelling giant ants, that is the pitch: a familiar battlefield that plays like a new one.
Two to four players, one very large insect problem
The formula has not moved. Waves of oversized insects, alien machines and whatever else the series has welded together this time come at a soldier with a rifle, a radio and an unlimited supply of enemies to shoot. EDF 6.2 supports offline play for one or two players with split-screen, and online co-operation for up to four. Its CERO age rating is still under review, and D3 Publisher will have it playable on the show floor at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from 17 to 21 September at Makuhari Messe.
The West is still waiting on a date
Only the Japanese release has been dated so far, and that is the part Western players will notice. The series has grown steadily outside Japan, but slowly: Earth Defense Force 6 launched in Japan in August 2022 and did not reach PC and Western consoles until 25 July 2024, close to two years later. D3 Publisher is also readying a Switch 2 port of EDF 6, listed as arriving this winter, while Earth Defense Force 5 for Nintendo Switch 2 lands on 8 October.
Our opinion
Sandlot and D3 Publisher have clearly worked out what their audience wants, and EDF 6.2 is a full-price answer to it: 7,700 yen for what is, honestly, a reworked version of a game that is already on your shelf. Plenty of studios would be criticised for that. D3 Publisher will not be, because the series sells a specific kind of unhinged, hundreds-of-enemies-on-screen chaos that nothing else quite reproduces, and the fan base buys the updates the way other people buy annual sports games. That is a very comfortable business to be in.
The frustration is the calendar. Japanese players get a date and a show-floor demo while everyone else gets silence, exactly as they did for EDF 6. A two-year delay between the Japanese and Western releases is not a distribution problem any more, it is a choice, and it is the main thing keeping the series from being bigger than it is. Tokyo Game Show is running right now. A Western date would cost D3 Publisher nothing to say out loud.
