Diablo 4 Season 15 questline bug fixed, splinter stacking unchanged

Blizzard has fixed a Season 15 bug that could block Diablo IV characters from completing the seasonal questline, but splinter stacking remains unchanged.

Blizzard has fixed a Diablo IV Season 15 bug that could stop a character completing the seasonal questline after using a Splinter of a Prime Evil too early. The fix is included in the 3.2.3 patch, which Blizzard says launched across all platforms on October 14.1 The bug affected the order in which characters gained access to Prime Evil Powers. Blizzard says using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before the relevant point in the seasonal questline could leave that character unable to finish the questline or unlock those powers.1 The new patch prevents the problem from happening to characters that have not triggered it. There is an important limitation for anyone already affected: the patch does not reset a character's quest progress, so downloading the update will not repair the stuck character. Blizzard's workaround is to create a new character in the same partition — Normal, Hardcore or Normal/SSF — and complete the seasonal questline again. Doing that unlocks Prime Evil Powers for every character in that partition.1 The update also fixes Tyrael appearing in a difficult-to-reach location after the Baal fight, the Sandstone Golem failing to respawn, the Countess passing through a fog wall, selected Horadric Cube affixes failing to reroll, and a Necromancer quest where some monsters did not drop Unbroken Bones.1 The patch addresses the quest-breaking Splinter bug, but it does not introduce the splinter-stacking change many players have been asking for. GamesRadar reports that the inventory complaint remains unresolved.2 This is a fix for a serious progression failure rather than a wider redesign of the seasonal system.

Our opinion

This is the right kind of emergency fix: it stops new characters falling into a progression hole and gives affected players a practical route back to Prime Evil Powers. The workaround is still awkward for anyone who has already invested time in a seasonal character, but the patch notes are clear about what it does and does not repair. The missing splinter stacking remains a separate request, not evidence that this particular fix failed. For now, update Diablo IV before starting or continuing the Season 15 questline. If a character has already been affected, follow Blizzard's same-partition workaround rather than assuming the patch will reset it automatically.

Blizzard's patch notes are the primary source for the fix, while the GamesRadar report supplies the context about the still-requested stacking change.
