Dancing with Ghosts has launched into Steam Early Access, putting its story of grief, friendship and village life in front of PC players for the first time. The game is set in a Thai riverside community, where 15-year-old Mai tries to rebuild her life after losing her parents and meets Pim, a ghost who has forgotten much of her past.1

The early-access release is available on Steam, with the store page listing a launch discount through 4 November. Regional pricing varies, so check the Steam listing before buying.1 4Gamer reports a standard price of 1,900 yen, reduced to 1,710 yen during the launch promotion.2

What is Dancing with Ghosts?

This is a life simulation game built around helping the residents of a Thai village. Mai and Pim take on everyday tasks including deliveries and cooking, with those activities presented through small games rather than as a conventional action adventure.2

The central idea is that the two protagonists turn difficult circumstances into something constructive. Pim is a spirit who has lost most of her memories, while Mai is dealing with guilt and the sudden loss of her family. Their relationship gives the game its emotional thread, but the structure is deliberately gentle: players spend time helping neighbours, learning about the community and building towards Pim’s recovery.12

The game also draws on the Thai idea of making merit for the dead. In Dancing with Ghosts, good deeds and community support are tied to helping spirits find a peaceful path, giving the cosy life-sim format a more specific cultural and emotional foundation than a simple farming or decorating loop.2

What to expect from early access

The Steam release is an early-access launch rather than the finished version. That means the available content, balance and presentation can still change as HumaNature Studios develops the game. The store listing describes the game as an uplifting narrative experience, while the launch coverage confirms its focus on village activities, relationships and the bond between Mai and Pim.12

That distinction matters here. Dancing with Ghosts is selling its setting and characters as much as its mechanics, so the quality of the writing and the rhythm of its smaller activities will decide whether its warm premise becomes a memorable story or merely a pleasant backdrop. Early access gives the developers room to refine that balance, but it also means buyers should approach the current build as work in progress.

Our opinion

The premise is unusually focused for a cosy life sim. A Thai riverside setting, a grieving teenager and a ghost trying to recover her memories give Dancing with Ghosts a clear identity before the first delivery or cooking mini-game begins. The early-access label is a reason to manage expectations, not a reason to dismiss it: this is a promising launch for players who want a gentler game with a story about loss, community and moving forward.
