Modern Warfare 4 launches on Switch 2 with mouse controls
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is live across major platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 mouse and gyro controls.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, marking the series’ return to Nintendo hardware for the first time since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. The Switch 2 version supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and gyro aiming, giving Nintendo players a control option that is unusual for a console release.12
Activision says the game includes a campaign, multiplayer and the returning DMZ extraction mode on every listed platform. The campaign moves between a Korean conflict, New York, Paris and Mumbai, while DMZ sends solo players or squads into a combat sandbox to recover equipment and escape with their loot.1
What the Switch 2 version adds
The Switch 2 release is not a cut-down companion version. It sits alongside the PS5, Xbox Series and PC editions in the launch line-up, with the same broad package of campaign, multiplayer and DMZ content. The platform-specific headline is the control scheme: Joy-Con 2 can be used as a mouse, and gyro controls are also supported.12
That makes Modern Warfare 4 one of the more technically interesting major third-party launches for Nintendo’s new hardware. The game is a large online shooter rather than a small-scale port, so its performance, matchmaking and image quality will matter as much as the novelty of aiming with a controller held like a mouse. Those are questions that the launch announcement cannot answer on its own.
Activision has also confirmed 12 new six-versus-six multiplayer maps, larger Ground War maps and Gunfight arenas. One new map, Kill Block, can reconfigure itself between rounds, while DMZ returns as an extraction mode built around risk, loot and squad decisions.1
The Standard Edition contains the core game, while the Vault Edition adds operator packs, a Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. The premium package does not replace the campaign or multiplayer with a separate tier; it mainly bundles additional cosmetics and seasonal extras.3
Our opinion
The Switch 2 version is the part of this launch that deserves attention beyond the usual platform checklist. A full-scale Call of Duty arriving on Nintendo hardware is notable by itself, but Joy-Con 2 mouse controls give the port a clear reason to exist rather than making it a box-ticking exercise. Whether that advantage survives long sessions will depend on comfort, precision and how well the game balances mouse-style aiming against players using traditional controllers. The launch is real; the bigger test is whether Nintendo’s hardware can make this familiar shooter feel meaningfully different.
