Avengers: Doomsday campaign turns Dave & Buster’s into Doom & Buster’s

Dave & Buster’s is becoming Doom & Buster’s, with Marvel games, themed prizes and Doomsday Zones arriving ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel’s Dr. Doom is taking over Dave & Buster’s ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, with the arcade chain renaming participating venues “Doom & Buster’s” from 16 November. The campaign is already rolling out Doomsday Zones, which turn sections of selected locations into Marvel-themed play areas.1

The promotion adds themed games, prizes, drinks and timed rewards to the regular Dave & Buster’s experience. The featured activities include MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, Avengers: Roller Race & Battle, Human Crane, Mystery Crane, Thor’s Hammer Strike, The Arena, Smash N Win and an Avengers photo booth.1

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is the most game-focused part of the tie-in. The recently released beat ’em up is being adapted into a four-player arcade cabinet, giving visitors a way to play the console and PC title in a Dave & Buster’s setting. A Doom-themed expansion, The Siege of Castle Doom, is also due on 10 November and may appear as part of the in-venue promotion.1

The campaign will also introduce Doom-themed drinks and mocktails, Avengers collectibles, Funko prizes and new Rewards Challenges. Random “DOOMHOUR” periods will offer double tickets on green-swipe games, with Rewards members receiving advance notice.1

The wider Avengers: Doomsday marketing push has already included collaborations with KFC and Major League Baseball. Dave & Buster’s is taking the most immersive route so far by changing the look and activities of its venues rather than simply adding a poster or menu item. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 18 December.1

Our opinion

This is a particularly smart games-led film promotion because it gives people something to play rather than asking them merely to look at branded advertising. MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is a natural centrepiece, and a four-player cabinet gives the campaign a social hook that fits Dave & Buster’s better than a standard concession tie-in. The real test will be consistency: if only a handful of venues receive the full Doomsday Zone treatment, the national campaign may feel more like a limited activation than a genuine takeover.
