ARC Raiders opens its first free-play weekend on 8 October
Embark Studios is making ARC Raiders free to play in full for four days from 8 October, timed to the Frozen Trail update and the game's first anniversary.

Embark Studios is opening ARC Raiders to everyone for four days. The extraction shooter, which launched in October 2025, will be free to download and play in full from 8 October to 12 October on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to the studio's own announcement.
Four days, the whole game
The free window runs from 11:00 CEST on Thursday 8 October to 10:00 CEST on Monday 12 October. Embark describes the offer as access to the full ARC Raiders game rather than a cut-down demo, so the extraction maps, the loot and the ARC machines are all in. It is the first time the studio has opened the game up at no cost since it arrived almost a year ago.
Timed to Frozen Trail and an anniversary
The giveaway begins on the same day as Frozen Trail, the update Embark has called its biggest yet, which adds the game's largest map and a reworked reward system to replace the retiring Cred currency. In its announcement the studio tied the free period to the approach of the game's first anniversary, and pointed players who have never tried it at the moment the game is changing most.
Anyone who takes the free window up will be playing a version that is being actively reshaped. Frozen Trail lands on day one of the promotion, so newcomers and lapsed players will meet the same reset, the same new progression and the same largest-yet map at the same time.
Our opinion
A free weekend this close to an anniversary is a recruitment drive and a retention test at once, and it reads as the latter. ARC Raiders has held a steady audience for a year, but extraction shooters live or die on how quickly a newcomer can be made useful to a squad, and four days is not long enough to learn a third of one map without help. The more telling decision is the timing: by folding the free period into the Frozen Trail relaunch, Embark turns an economy reset into an event that fence-sitters can walk into for nothing. New blood is welcome, but if the promotion works the way the studio hopes, it is the lapsed regulars coming back for the reset who matter most.
