ARC Raiders sets its biggest update yet for 8 October
Embark has dated Frozen Trail, the ARC Raiders update it calls its biggest yet, after a First Look that promised the game's largest map.

Embark Studios has put a date on Frozen Trail, and it is 8 October. The ARC Raiders update that the studio has been calling its biggest yet had its First Look on 23 September at 10am PDT (7pm CEST), and the studio's own announcement before the stream promised 'an extended peek at our biggest update yet' with 'more planned ahead of October 8th'.
What Embark itself has promised
The clearest description of Frozen Trail is one Embark wrote in May, when it explained why it was slowing down. Frozen Trail, that post says, 'will be our biggest, most exciting update yet', with 'the largest map yet', 'our most ambitious ARC Operation so far - expect unique behaviors and designs!', 'new systems of progression', an 'improved skill tree' and 'new weapons, items, instruments, cosmetics and more'.
That same post set the cadence players are now living with. Rather than a steady churn of seasonal content, Embark committed to content updates twice a year, with the regular live updates keeping to bug fixing, balancing and store changes in between. Frozen Trail is the first of the big two, and by that schedule it carries a lot of weight for a single release.
The economy is changing too
Frozen Trail also retires a currency. Cred, the game's earnable balance, will stop being usable after 8 October, and Embark's September live update told players to spend whatever is left with Shani or on any remaining Raider Deck rewards before then. What replaces it is described as 'a more expansive reward system launching with the Frozen Trail Update', and everything already claimed from a Raider Deck carries over into it.
The September live update was, by Embark's own account, the last one before October, with one smaller release pencilled in ahead of the big one. That smaller release landed on 22 September as update 1.47.0, carrying fixes for the Rawhide outfit, keyboard input, the occasional invisible door and a PS5 physics crash. It is the tidying-up before the guest arrives.
Why the date matters
For a game that launched in October 2025 and has spent the past year running on a seasonal rhythm, a twice-yearly schedule puts real pressure on each release to land. Embark has also been open that the update covers more than a map: 'new ways to progress and reasons to play' is the phrase in the May post, which is as close as the studio has come to saying that the loop itself is being rebuilt.
What the First Look showed in detail is not yet something we can quote from Embark directly - the studio's own written breakdown sits behind a page that refuses this host - so the safe reading of the 9 October plan is the studio's own wording: biggest map, most ambitious ARC Operation, new progression, improved skill tree, new gear, and a rebuilt reward system. Everything else is expectation.
Our opinion
The interesting bet here is not the map, it is the cadence. Twice a year is a studio admitting it would rather ship one enormous thing than four thin ones, and the trade is stark: if Frozen Trail lands like an expansion, the schedule becomes a selling point, and if it drags or arrives light, players will spend the gap between October and next spring reminding Embark of the promise. Fewer releases also means fewer chances to answer criticism, which is a hard position for a live game in a competitive genre.
Retiring Cred alongside the update is the quieter, more sensible decision. A currency that nobody can explain is worse than no currency, and replacing it with a reward system that inherits every claimed Raider Deck reward avoids the usual insult of wiping progress. Embark has also been refreshingly plain that it does not want to announce features it might not deliver, which makes 8 October worth marking on the calendar rather than speculating about.
