A Bird Story Remastered lands on consoles with 4K and 120fps support
A Bird Story Remastered brings Freebird Games’ wordless pixel adventure to consoles with 4K, 120fps and DualSense support.
A Bird Story Remastered has landed on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, bringing Freebird Games’ quiet, wordless adventure to consoles for the first time. The remaster is also available on PC, where the original game launched in 2014.12
The game follows a lonely boy who discovers an injured bird, with the story unfolding through pixel animation rather than dialogue. Its short, roughly one-hour format and focus on atmosphere make it a very different proposition from a conventional role-playing game, even though its presentation borrows some familiar RPG visual language.1
What the remaster changes
Freebird Games and publisher Serenity Forge have kept the original story intact while updating the presentation for modern hardware. The remaster adds a true 16:9 display, resolutions up to 4K and support for frame rates of up to 120 frames per second. The soundtrack has also been upgraded, while new console achievements and PlayStation 5 DualSense haptic support give the new versions a few platform-specific extras.2
Existing Steam owners receive the remastered version as a free update. The game is listed at £3.29 on the UK Xbox Store, while the Steam listing currently shows a €3.99 price in its European pricing data.23
The console release expands the audience for a small game that has previously been closely associated with Freebird Games’ To the Moon and Finding Paradise. A Bird Story is not a sequel to either title: it is a standalone story with its own beginning and ending, using visual animation and music to carry the emotional weight.1
Our opinion
A Bird Story Remastered is an interesting reminder that a game does not need a huge map, a lengthy campaign or reams of dialogue to make its premise clear. The console launch is modest rather than revolutionary, but the 16:9 presentation and modern display options remove some of the friction around revisiting a 2014 PC release. For players who prefer compact, atmosphere-led stories, the remaster’s arrival on consoles gives this unusually brief adventure a chance to reach a wider audience without pretending to be something it is not.
A Bird Story Remastered is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC. The Xbox version is listed for Xbox Series X|S, while the original Steam release remains available alongside the free remastered update for existing owners.123
