Wardogs Season 3 could arrive earlier after reset concerns
Bulkhead says it may bring Wardogs Season 3 forward after Season 2 failed to deliver the fresh start it promised.
Wardogs developer Bulkhead is considering bringing Season 3 forward after admitting that Season 2 has not delivered the “proper fresh start” many players expected. The studio says it will not force an immediate reset, but is now looking at a significantly earlier third season and a separate mid-season update built around restricted servers.1
Why Season 2 has not felt fresh
Bulkhead says Season 2 was designed to speed up progression and rebalance the game. That approach has had the opposite effect for some players: high-level equipment, including tier-four armour and main battle tanks, can be reached within days. The developer argues that this meant the season’s wipe did not create the clean break it intended.1
The problem is partly a question of audience. Wardogs chief executive Joe Brammer says players who spend many hours in the game can feel that progression is too fast, while people with less free time can struggle to reach the higher unlocks. UX director Howard Philpott says Season 2 was deliberately tilted towards those with less time, but that choice has restored much of the late-game feel the reset was meant to strip back.1
Season 3 could arrive earlier
Bulkhead says it is “looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content” so players can get “a proper fresh start”. It has not announced a new launch date, and the wording describes an intention rather than a confirmed schedule. The developer also says it will not carry out a knee-jerk reset this weekend, because that would be unfair to players already making progress.1
In the meantime, Bulkhead is monitoring the parts of the economy and progression system that have split the community. It says some issues are clearly out of balance and will be fixed, while other changes need more time to play out before the team commits to a solution.1
A lower-powered server option is planned
The next confirmed step is a mid-season update currently referred to as update 2.5. Bulkhead is planning “limited” or “primitive” servers, with the final name still undecided. These servers would cap the available weapons, equipment and vehicles at the lower end of the progression tree.
That would let players opt out of the power-weapon race without forcing the studio to nerf or overtune those items across every mode. It is a more targeted answer than resetting the whole game, although the developer has not yet shared a release date for the servers.1
Our opinion
Bulkhead’s comments are meaningful because they acknowledge the core tension in Wardogs’ early-access progression: a fast climb can reward players with limited time, but it also shortens the period in which a seasonal wipe feels meaningful. Bringing Season 3 forward may restore that sense of occasion, but only if the studio explains what will change rather than treating another reset as the solution on its own.
The restricted servers sound like the more immediately useful idea. They could give dedicated players a slower, lower-powered ruleset while leaving the main progression path intact. For now, though, Season 3 remains an early possibility, not a dated announcement.
