Until Dawn 2 launches on PS5 on January 28, 2027

Sony has confirmed that Until Dawn 2 launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, with pre-orders opening on September 10. The standalone horror adventure follows a group of online ghost hunters who travel to a remote island for a television deal, only to discover that the supernatural story they are filming may be real. ¹

A new cast, a new island

Developed by Firesprite with story support from AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch, Until Dawn 2 introduces a new group of playable characters rather than bringing back the original ensemble. Sony says the cast includes Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie and Cameron, while Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill. The game is designed around the same central promise as its predecessor: decisions can change relationships, routes and who survives the night. ¹

The official premise sends the group to an abandoned resort on a remote island. Their television project begins as a search for a compelling ghost story, but the danger escalates when the island’s history starts to intrude on the production. PlayStation describes the game as a choice-driven horror experience with several possible endings, encouraging players to revisit the story and make different decisions. ²

The September announcement also revealed a pre-order bonus package built around Dr. Hill, including a classic costume, an island outfit and in-game bobbleheads. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack for all eight playable characters and a Dioramas of Death gallery that explores the game’s grisly outcomes. ¹

PlayStation’s product page lists Until Dawn 2 as a single-player PS5 game with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, 3D audio and PS5 Pro enhancements. The page also lists a broad accessibility suite, including screen-reader support, subtitle and caption options, controller remapping, visual-comfort settings and simplified quick-time events. ²

The official pre-order trailer gives a clearer look at the premise, including the Dead True crew investigating Blackwood Sanatorium before their journey takes them towards the abandoned resort. It also sets up the game’s central tension: helping a missing friend may reveal vital clues, but leaving the safer route could expose the group to something far worse. ³

Our opinion

The important detail here is that Until Dawn 2 is not being sold as a remake or a direct continuation of the original cast’s story. Firesprite is using the familiar choice-driven horror framework for a new group, a new location and a more media-savvy premise. That gives the sequel room to stand on its own while keeping the ingredient that made the first game work: every apparently small decision can become a future problem. The January release date gives horror fans a clear date to circle, but the real test will be whether the new cast earns the same investment as the original survivors.
