Talesweaver Mobile announced as Nexon opens Korean focus test
Nexon has announced Talesweaver Mobile and opened Korean focus group registrations, but a global release has not been confirmed.
Nexon has announced Talesweaver Mobile (テイルズウィーバー モバイル), a new MMORPG based on the long-running Talesweaver IP, and has opened registrations for a Korean focus group test. The project is being developed by NEXON Korea Corporation, with the announcement arriving more than two decades after the original online RPG launched.1
The announcement is aimed squarely at South Korean players for now. Nexon says the focus group test will take place in December, while applications remain open until 15 November. The company says the session will be used to evaluate the game and improve its quality before a wider release plan is discussed.1
What Nexon has announced
Talesweaver Mobile is described as a new MMORPG that rebuilds the original game's world for phones. Nexon says it will retain the setting, characters and visual identity associated with Talesweaver, while adapting the experience for mobile play with simplified controls and fast-paced combat.1
That wording matters because this is not being presented as a straightforward mobile port. Nexon's announcement calls it a new game built on the IP, although it has not yet revealed a release date, launch territories beyond Korea or the platforms it will support outside the mobile description.1
The original Talesweaver launched in 2003 and was based on writer Jeong Min-hee's fantasy novel series Children of the Rune. It became known for its story-led structure, distinctive art direction, soundtrack and combo-focused combat. Nexon has continued to use the same broad strategy across several older franchises, but Talesweaver Mobile is still early enough that the December test will be the first meaningful look at how much of that identity survives the move to mobile.1
The announcement follows Talesweaver: SecondRun, a previous mobile entry that launched in 2022 before shutting down in 2023. That history gives the new project an obvious question to answer: what is different this time? Nexon has not addressed that directly, but describing the project as a new MMORPG rather than a simple re-release suggests a larger attempt to reshape the series for a new audience.2
The first footage
NEXON Korea has also released a Korean-language recruitment video showing in-game scenes and the game's take on the original series' atmosphere. The official video is embedded below.
For now, the footage and focus group announcement are the concrete details. There is no confirmed global launch, pricing information or release window, and the FGT is not a public beta. Players outside Korea should therefore treat this as an early development announcement rather than a sign that the game is close to launching worldwide.
Our opinion
Talesweaver Mobile is interesting because Nexon is not hiding the fact that it is rebuilding an older online world for a different format. The focus group test is a sensible first step: it should reveal whether the game's story, character appeal and combat can survive streamlined mobile controls before the company commits to a broader rollout.
The more difficult test will be differentiation. A familiar name can attract returning players, but it cannot by itself solve the problems that have affected earlier mobile revivals: aggressive monetisation, repetitive progression and a loss of the original game's texture. Nexon has given fans the right amount of atmosphere to start paying attention, but the December test needs to show a game with its own reason to exist, not just a recognisable logo on a phone screen.
