Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! sets a global January launch

Sanrio's first in-house game brand has confirmed that its rhythm and dance title Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! will launch worldwide in January 2027, opening pre-registration on 21 September.

Hello Kitty sings into a microphone at the centre of a neon-lit stage, flanked by Kuromi on a DJ deck, Pompompurin with a guitar, Tuxedo Sam on drums, Cinnamoroll with a keytar and My Melody at a boombox, above the Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! logo.

Sanrio is taking its characters into a rhythm game worldwide next year. Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! is set for a global release in January 2027, the company confirmed on 21 September, and pre-registration opened the same day for iOS and Android.

What Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! is

It is a rhythm and dance game for iOS and Android, free to play with in-app purchases that include random items, according to the title's own specification block. Sanrio has not published an exact release date beyond the January 2027 window, no price for the paid items, no download size and no breakdown of which markets the global launch covers.

The game is not arriving cold. Sanrio opened the official site and began recruiting for a closed beta test on 28 June 2026, and players could try a build at Sanrio Games' first Tokyo Game Show exhibit, which ran from 17 to 21 September 2026 at Makuhari Messe.

Pre-registration runs to 13 January 2027

The pre-registration campaign stays open until 13 January 2027 at 23:59 JST. Rewards are worked out from a combined total that adds App Store pre-orders, Google Play pre-registrations and followers of the project's two X accounts, @SanrioKML_JP and @SanrioKML_GL. Everything unlocked that way is then given to all players once the game is live, although Sanrio says the items have to be claimed inside a separate distribution window after launch.

A launch concert and a ZUTOMAYO collaboration

Sanrio is marking the release with a commemorative live at Yokohama Kannai Hall in Japan on 14 January 2027. The company also announced a tie-up with the Japanese act ZUTOMAYO, and the song written for the game is titled 「アーモンド問答」. A broader collaboration with Universal Music artists was announced on 11 August 2026, with the participating acts and songs still to be revealed on the project's X accounts.

Where the game sits in Sanrio's push

Sanrio Games launched in April 2026 as Sanrio's first in-house gaming brand, and Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! is one of three titles it has put its name to. Hello Kitty Party Land, a party game for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, arrives on 29 October 2026. FRAGARIAMEMORIES Color of Wishes, another smartphone title built on the Fragaria Memories character project, is in production for 2027.

Our opinion

Sanrio coming to mobile with a dance game rather than another gacha role-player is the more interesting decision. These characters have been licensed into games for decades, but this is the company's own brand doing the work, and a rhythm game is a genre where recognisability does most of the heavy lifting: My Melody behind a boombox reads instantly in a way a licensed heroine never quite does. The caveat sits in how success will be measured. Because the reward tiers count X followers alongside store registrations, the headline numbers will lean on an audience that already follows the brand rather than on players who will still be there in February. Sanrio has the characters; January is when we find out whether the game underneath them is worth the pre-registration.
