Roombattle heading to Nintendo Switch
Flynn’s Arcade and Dust Games have announced a Nintendo Switch version of the six-player vacuum-cleaner party battler, but there is no release date yet.
RoomBattle is heading to Nintendo Switch, with Flynn’s Arcade and Dust Games confirming the party battler for Nintendo’s console without announcing a release date. The game is already described as a chaotic multiplayer experience built around customisable vacuum cleaners, arenas and minigames. 12
What to expect
Roombattle supports up to six players in online and local multiplayer. Matches revolve around popping opponents’ balloons while navigating interactive rooms filled with hazards, traps and destructible objects. The game also includes minigames between battle rounds, plus a standalone minigame mode for players who want something lighter than a full match. 1
Dust Games says players can use a keyboard or smartphone as a controller if they do not have enough traditional gamepads. The developer is also promising a sizeable customisation system, with nearly 200,000 combinations for building a distinctive vacuum cleaner, alongside unlockable gameplay elements and cosmetic rewards. 1
The game’s accessible controls are part of its pitch: Dust Games says Roombattle can be played with two buttons and a stick. That makes the Switch announcement a natural fit for local multiplayer, although the studio has not yet detailed whether the Nintendo version will match the PC release feature for feature. 12
Release date and platforms
The Switch version has been announced, but Flynn’s Arcade and Dust Games have not shared a launch date. The announcement therefore confirms the platform rather than an imminent release, and readers should not treat Roombattle as available on Switch yet. 2
Roombattle is currently listed on Steam, where its store page identifies Dust Games as the developer and publisher. The official Dust Games page also lists Nintendo Switch alongside Steam, but neither source gives a Switch launch window at the time of writing. 13
Our opinion
A six-player vacuum-cleaner brawler is exactly the sort of compact, readable premise that can work well on Switch, particularly when the game supports local multiplayer and straightforward controls. The combination of destructible rooms, short minigames and absurd customisation gives Roombattle a clearer identity than a generic party-game announcement. The missing launch date is the key caveat: until the developers confirm when the Switch version arrives, this is a promising platform announcement rather than a game readers can buy today.
