River City Survivors announces Double Dragon Revive collaboration

Arc System Works has announced a collaboration update for River City Survivors: Downtown of the Dead, bringing the game together with Double Dragon Revive to mark the latter’s first anniversary.¹²

The update is planned to arrive soon, but Arc System Works has not announced a release date or detailed its contents yet. The publisher’s announcement asks players to stay tuned, and points them towards the game’s store page for more information.¹

River City Survivors: Downtown of the Dead is a survivor-like action game starring Kunio and is available on Apple devices through Apple Arcade.¹ Players fight through waves of zombies, improve their abilities during runs and build teams from a roster of more than 20 playable characters. The game also includes equipment upgrades and companion characters, giving the collaboration a ready-made framework for adding new content.¹

Double Dragon Revive launched in 2025, making its anniversary the obvious occasion for the crossover. The announcement does not yet say whether the update will add playable characters, stages, equipment, story content or other bonuses, so those details remain to be confirmed.¹²

Our opinion

This collaboration makes sense because both games draw from Arc System Works’ long-running belt-scrolling brawler heritage, even though River City Survivors turns that foundation into a survival-action format. The pixel-art Kunio cast and the modernised Double Dragon fighters also give the update a clear visual hook, rather than making it feel like a routine anniversary promotion. The important missing piece is scope: until Arc System Works explains what is actually being added, this is a promising announcement rather than a reason to expect a substantial expansion.

For now, the confirmed news is simply that the crossover is in development and that more information is coming. We will update this story when Arc System Works reveals the release timing and full content.
