BlazBlue: Central Fiction is coming to PS5 as a native version, with Arc System Works promising the rollback netcode, PC cross-play and training improvements that fans have been asking for. The announcement does not yet have a release date, and the publisher has not fully detailed how the PS5 edition will be distributed. 1

What is changing

The 2015 fighting game is set to receive a native PS5 version with rollback netcode that can connect with the PC release. It will also add four new text languages and improvements to its training modes, according to the announcement reported by Push Square. 1

Arc System Works has also suggested that the PS5 edition could be a free upgrade for existing PS4 owners, although that wording comes from the company’s American social-media post rather than a complete upgrade policy. More information is due later. 1

The announcement arrives alongside plans to update the PS4 version with Trinity Glassfille, a new character. Arc System Works has not confirmed whether that character’s release will line up with the PS5 version, so it is best to treat the two announcements as related but separate for now. 1

What we still do not know

There is no confirmed PS5 release date, pricing information or final list of presentation upgrades. The port should benefit from newer hardware, but any visual or performance improvements beyond the announced features remain unconfirmed. 1

Our opinion

A native PS5 release makes sense for a fighter that still has a committed audience, particularly if the PC cross-play and rollback implementation work as promised. The free-upgrade possibility would remove much of the friction for existing players, but it should not be treated as confirmed until Arc System Works publishes the full details.

For now, the meaningful news is that BlazBlue: Central Fiction is not being left behind: it is getting a modern online foundation and another chance to find players on current hardware.
