Quiet Express: Cabin 909 is now available as a free demo on Steam, giving players a first look at STUDIO909's mystery adventure aboard a train doomed to crash after seven days. The demo is designed to introduce the game's central loop: explore the train, investigate the unexplained Cabin 909 and search for a way to prevent the disaster. 1

A mystery aboard the Quiet Express

Quiet Express: Cabin 909 is set aboard a train crossing a continent over seven days. The player wakes in a rear carriage and begins searching for Cabin 909, a room that should not exist. The train is made up of several distinct spaces, including passenger cars, a restaurant car and freight compartments, with new routes and discoveries opening as the journey continues.

The mystery is not limited to the missing room. Before the train reaches its destination on the seventh day, it is destined to suffer a catastrophic derailment that kills everyone on board. The player is sent back to the beginning of the journey after each disaster, creating a time-loop structure built around learning what happened and changing the outcome.

What the demo includes

The demo is expected to take about 30 minutes to complete. It gives players a sample of the investigation system, where three possible discoveries can be presented and the player chooses which lead to pursue. Some apparent dead ends — including switches that seem to do nothing — can hide clues, while rearranging the train's carriages can reveal new passages or create additional options.

Passengers also form an important part of the story. Quiet Express: Cabin 909's world includes beastfolk, giants and homunculi, whose conversations and personal problems become part of the player's wider investigation. Listening to passengers, following requests and learning about their lives can uncover more than simple flavour text: these encounters may help the player understand both the train and their own purpose within the loop.

The demo is accompanied by a new trailer and an official Discord server for updates and player discussion. The full game is planned for release on PC in 2027, so this first playable version is best understood as a preview rather than a complete statement of the final game. 1 2

Our opinion

A free demo is the right way to introduce a mystery built around repetition. Quiet Express: Cabin 909 has a clear question — why does Cabin 909 exist, and can the derailment be stopped? — while its carriage-by-carriage exploration gives that question a practical shape. The time loop also promises a useful rhythm for a demo: each failed journey can turn into a clue instead of simply resetting progress.

The most intriguing detail is the way the train itself appears to be part of the puzzle. Reordering carriages, finding hidden routes and deciding which investigation lead to follow should make the setting feel more like a changing machine than a static backdrop. Whether the full game can keep those discoveries meaningful across repeated seven-day journeys will have to wait for the 2027 release, but the Steam demo offers a concise way to test its premise now.
