Bill Skarsgård takes the lead in Kojima's Physint

The last surprise of the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast belonged to Hideo Kojima, and it was a casting one. Kojima Productions has confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will portray the lead role in Physint, the action-espionage game the studio is making in partnership with Xbox.

Kojima also showed off a new poster carrying a photograph he took himself of Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser, giving the project its first proper look at the people it has signed. “I'm delighted to confirm the lead role for Physint will be Bill Skarsgård,” Kojima said in the announcement. “We are both long-time fans of each other's work, and we've decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”

Who else is in the *Physint* cast?

Kojima Productions says Skarsgård joins an ensemble that includes Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe, with more casting announcements promised as production continues. Those three names are the entire confirmed cast list for now — the studio has not attached release dates, platforms or a gameplay reveal to any of it.

What else did Kojima say at Tokyo Game Show?

The same broadcast brought an update on OD – KNOCK, the horror project Kojima Productions is making with Xbox Game Studios, including behind-the-scenes footage of Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer in a performance capture session. Kojima said performance capture and ADR recording on that game have resumed after pausing during the SAG strike and that work is proceeding on schedule.

For Physint specifically, the studio says it is making progress on casting, talent scans and collaborations with outside creators. The casting reveal lands shortly after Sony Interactive Entertainment stepped back from publishing the game and Xbox Game Studios took the publishing reins, extending a partnership that now spans games, film and television.

Does *Physint* have a release date?

No. Kojima Productions has not given a window, a platform list or a price for Physint. Everything announced so far is casting and partnership detail, so treat any release date circulating elsewhere as guesswork.

Casting a Hollywood lead this early is a statement of intent, not a development milestone, and Kojima Productions clearly wants Physint talked about as an event rather than a project. It is also the smartest kind of marketing for a game with nothing playable to show: a face people recognise buys attention that a logo cannot. The interesting part is what it says about the Xbox relationship. Losing Sony as publisher and picking up a lead actor of this weight in the space of a week is a confident, expensive-looking pivot, and it hints that Xbox wants a prestige espionage title it can put on a stage next to its own shooters. Kojima's fans have been burned by long waits before, so the excitement is fair and the scepticism is fairer. Show us something moving and we will believe the poster.
