Ordinary Oddness reveals open-world gameplay and opens wishlists

Ordinary Oddness has revealed its first gameplay trailer and opened wishlists for its surreal open-world detective RPG.

Ordinary Oddness open-world game world shown in the official gameplay trailer

Ordinary Oddness has unveiled its first gameplay trailer and opened wishlists ahead of its eventual launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The open-world RPG comes from Cosmicpup Studio and is set in the strange fantasy city of Elysian Skies.12

There is no release date yet, but the trailer gives the project a much clearer identity than its broad open-world label suggests. It follows a private investigator who runs a detective agency in a city where humans live alongside strange beings known as Mythoids.

A detective story in a floating fantasy city

The gameplay footage introduces Elysian Skies as a colourful, shifting world filled with unusual architecture, floating districts and creatures that do not fit a conventional fantasy bestiary. The developer describes the Mythoids as sentient beings that take distinctly non-human forms, making them central to the game’s setting rather than simple enemy designs.1

Players take the role of the Consulting Investigator, accepting jobs from non-player characters and solving mysteries connected to the city. Completing cases feeds into the game’s progression, with rewards used to expand the detective agency and unlock new combat skills.1

The first trailer runs for around 22 minutes and shows the investigator pursuing another character through rapidly changing environments. It also introduces Luminar, a mysterious figure linked to the larger questions surrounding the city and the protagonist’s work.2

Combat and progression

Ordinary Oddness combines investigation with action combat. The developer’s description highlights fast character swaps, elemental abilities and tag attacks, alongside parries, perfect dodges and cinematic finishers. That gives the game a combat structure closer to a character-action RPG than a purely dialogue-led detective adventure.1

The project is also listed as a co-op and MMO game on Steam, although Cosmicpup Studio has not yet detailed how its multiplayer systems will work. The team has opened pre-registration through the official website and is using the first gameplay reveal to introduce the setting, characters and basic gameplay loop rather than announce a firm launch window.1

The official trailer presents the game’s visual direction more clearly than any single feature list. Its floating city, pastel skies and surreal structures are built around a strong contrast between a playful surface and the mysteries the investigator is expected to uncover.2

Our opinion

The most promising thing about Ordinary Oddness is that its oddness is doing useful work. The game is not simply placing a familiar open-world checklist inside a colourful setting; the detective-agency structure gives players a reason to investigate the city, while the Mythoids provide a steady source of questions about who belongs there and what counts as normal.

There are still obvious unknowns. A 22-minute gameplay trailer can establish the mood, but it cannot prove that the casework, combat and agency upgrades will hold together across a full release. The multiplayer label is similarly underexplained, and the lack of a release date suggests that Cosmicpup Studio still has substantial development ahead.

For now, Ordinary Oddness is worth watching rather than treating as a confirmed near-term release. The official site’s pre-registration and the open PC wishlists give interested players a way to follow development, while the gameplay reveal provides enough of a hook to make that wait worthwhile. The hero image is taken from the official gameplay trailer and shows the game’s title over its floating-city setting.2
