Oblivion Remastered mod claims 40 per cent performance gains

A fan-made mod claims to improve Oblivion Remastered’s frame rates and reduce traversal stutter with AI-assisted fixes.

A new fan-made performance mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered claims to tackle one of the remaster’s most persistent PC problems: uneven frame rates and traversal stutter. DSOGaming reports that its creator, LTSharpe, used AI-assisted tooling to identify slow points and develop roughly 40 fixes.1

The mod’s reported results are substantial on the test system. Frame rates in cities rose from about 30 frames per second to a steadier 60fps, while open-world performance improved by roughly 30–40 per cent. The project also adds support for the latest AMD FSR Frame Generation and includes fixes aimed at bugs in both the base game and the remaster.1

What the mod changes

LTSharpe built a custom testing tool that allowed Claude to locate performance problems and suggest fixes. The resulting project is available through GitHub as the Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix.2 It is intended to help most when the processor is limiting performance, including in towns, crowded areas and during travel through the open world.

The mod will not eliminate every slowdown. DSOGaming notes that a graphics card running at its limit, native 4K rendering or a high-end processor may leave little headroom for a large frame-rate improvement. Crowded scenes can still stress the game’s main thread, and some loading hitches are tied to the older engine rather than a single fixable setting.1

That makes the reported 40 per cent figure a best-case result rather than a guarantee for every PC. The original test used a Ryzen 7 5800X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32GB of RAM and Windows 11, so results will vary significantly with the hardware and settings used.

Our opinion

The interesting part is not simply that AI was involved. It is that a modder has used automated testing to attack the sort of scattered, hard-to-reproduce problems that often linger after a major release. A claimed 40 per cent uplift should still be treated as a report from one test setup, but a free fix that also targets stutter and frame-generation support is worth watching for players frustrated by the remaster’s rough edges.

The project is available via its GitHub page, although players should back up their files and check compatibility before installing any mod.2
