Nintendo reports 26.35 million Switch 2 sales
Nintendo says Switch 2 has reached 26.35 million hardware sales worldwide, with software sales climbing to 73.21 million units by September 30, 2026.
Nintendo’s latest financial materials put Nintendo Switch 2’s worldwide hardware sales at 26.35 million units as of 30 September 2026. The company also reports 73.21 million Switch 2 software sales, giving the console a sizeable installed base and a substantial software footprint less than two years into its life. 1
Nintendo says it sold 6.49 million Switch 2 systems during the six months from 1 April to 30 September. That half-year figure lifted cumulative hardware sales to 26.35 million, while software sales reached 73.21 million. These are Nintendo’s global company figures rather than a regional breakdown, so they do not show how many units were sold specifically in the UK. 1
The figures come from Nintendo’s results for the six months ended 30 September 2026, covering the first half of its financial year ending 31 March 2027. The filing also reports net sales of 966.041 billion yen and operating profit of 216.5 billion yen for the half-year. Nintendo’s full-year forecast remains 2.05 trillion yen in net sales and 370 billion yen in operating profit. 1
The new totals were first reported by Famitsu, which notes that Nintendo changed Switch 2 pricing in the US and Europe from September 2026. Japan had already seen a price change in May. That makes the next reporting period particularly useful: it should show whether the revised pricing changes the pace of hardware demand outside Japan, rather than simply reflecting the console’s initial launch surge. 2
Nintendo’s figures are reported company totals, not an independently audited estimate of the entire market. They also combine software sales across the platform, so they do not by themselves reveal which individual games are driving the result. Even so, the relationship between 26.35 million consoles and 73.21 million software units suggests Switch 2 is moving beyond a hardware-only launch story. 1
Our opinion
The software number is the more revealing part of this update. A console can sell strongly at launch and then flatten out, but 73.21 million software sales give Nintendo a much healthier base for the next wave of releases. The important question now is whether that momentum holds through the rest of the financial year, especially after the regional price changes. For players, the number to watch is not just how many Switch 2 systems Nintendo ships next, but whether the software catalogue keeps converting that audience into regular buyers. 1 2
