Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 3 confirmed for PS5 and PC
Bandai Namco has announced a free-to-play Gundam team battler for PS5 and Steam, but its release date remains to be announced.
Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 3, a new free-to-play team combat game coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The publisher opened the game's official website on 28 October, confirming the platforms but leaving its release date as “to be announced”. 1
The game is the latest entry in the Battle Operation series, which puts players into online battles built around the mobile suits of the Mobile Suit Gundam universe. The official description says the game will combine mobile-suit combat with infantry operations and SP Skills, giving players more ways to contribute than simply piloting a machine. 1
Bandai Namco lists support for one to 18 players, although the announcement does not yet explain how that number will be divided between teams or modes. The game will be free to play with some paid content, and online play will require an internet connection plus either a PlayStation Network or Steam account. 1
The Steam listing confirms that the PC version is planned but has not yet flipped to a launch date. It currently marks the release as coming soon, with the date still to be announced. 2 That means this is a platform announcement rather than a release-date reveal: there is no launch window, price beyond the free-to-play model, age rating or regional availability to report yet.
What to watch next
The key detail will be how Battle Operation 3 handles the jump from PlayStation 5 to PC. The series has traditionally leaned into deliberate, team-focused combat, so cross-platform matchmaking, control options and the balance between mobile suits and infantry will matter more than a flashy first trailer. Bandai Namco has confirmed the basic structure, but the game's eventual network test or launch showcase will need to answer those practical questions.
Our opinion
This is a meaningful announcement for Battle Operation fans because it confirms a new entry on two current platforms, rather than leaving the series tied to a single console generation. The early details are promising, but the announcement is intentionally light on specifics. Until Bandai Namco shares gameplay, monetisation details and a release window, Battle Operation 3 is one to keep an eye on rather than one to start planning around.
