Kingdom Hearts is coming to Fortnite, with Sora, Kairi, Riku and Roxas arriving in the item shop on 17 September.

What's actually going on

Epic Games and Square Enix confirmed the crossover for 17 September 2026, timed to land over the Tokyo Game Show weekend. Four character outfits are on the way, with Sora, Kairi, Riku and Roxas all using their Kingdom Hearts II-era designs.

The 40-second trailer runs to Utada’s “Sanctuary” from Kingdom Hearts II. Sora fights alongside Kairi and Riku against enemies dressed to resemble the series’ Heartless, and Roxas drops in front of the heart-shaped moon that has become one of the franchise’s most recognisable images.

Epic teased the collaboration before the full reveal, showing Sora, his Keyblade and that moon without naming the characters. The finished trailer confirms the lineup and leaves the commercial details alone: prices and how each item is acquired have not been announced, and the video notes that an in-game purchase is required.

The crossover sits inside Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, a season that has already pulled in references to Persona 5 Royal, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog and Street Fighter.

Why you should care

Kingdom Hearts has never crossed into Fortnite before, and the reason is not a lack of demand. The series is jointly owned by Disney and Square Enix, which makes licensing conversations considerably more complicated than the average skin drop, and the characters have historically appeared in very few outside games.

It also lands in a Fortnite season built almost entirely on crossovers, which tells you where Epic sees the value: recognisable characters from other people’s worlds, sold to a player base that will happily buy a costume it recognises.

For Kingdom Hearts fans, the practical question is value rather than novelty. Outfit prices in Fortnite usually sit in a narrow band, but nothing has been confirmed here, so budget on the basis of previous collaborations rather than a stated figure.

Our opinion

This is a good get for both sides. Fortnite continues to be the place where unlikely licensing deals actually happen, and Kingdom Hearts finally gets a mainstream, permanently online home for its cast rather than another rerelease. The trailer promises spectacle over substance, which is exactly right for a crossover. The only sour note is the silence on pricing; four outfits at once is rarely cheap, so decide what you want before the shop resets.
