Grand Theft Auto VI pre-download begins November 10 on PS5
PlayStation says pre-downloads for pre-order customers begin at local midnight on November 10, ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI's November 19 PS5 launch.
Grand Theft Auto VI is getting its PS5 pre-download window on November 10, giving pre-order customers a chance to install the huge release before launch day. Sony Interactive Entertainment says the download will open at local midnight for eligible pre-orders, with the game scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on November 19.1
What PlayStation confirmed
The official PlayStation Blog post says players should clear at least 212GB of storage on their PS5 before the download begins. That is a storage recommendation rather than a confirmed final download size, so it would be premature to treat 212GB as the exact installed footprint. The post also directs players to the PlayStation Store for the available editions, pricing and pre-order details.1
The announcement is specifically about PS5. It does not confirm a PC or Xbox release in this update, and it does not provide a regional pricing breakdown. Players buying the game through participating retailers or the PlayStation Store should therefore check the listing attached to their own account and region rather than assume that every edition or promotion is identical.12
Why the timing matters
Pre-loading is increasingly important for major releases, but it does not move the launch date forward. Installing the files from November 10 should simply mean that eligible players are ready to start when Grand Theft Auto VI officially releases on November 19. Any final patch, licence check or launch-day update may still be required before play begins.
The practical advice is straightforward: confirm the pre-order, make room on the console and leave enough time for the download. Sony has not announced further technical details in this post, so claims about the final file size, download duration or additional platforms should wait for a more specific update.
Our opinion
A ten-day pre-download lead is useful for a game this large, even if the 212GB figure is only a minimum storage warning. The important distinction is that players can prepare early, but nobody is getting early access: Grand Theft Auto VI still launches on November 19, and the remaining details belong to the PlayStation Store listing rather than speculation.
