Grand Theft Auto VI recasts the Miami HEAT as Vice City

The Miami HEAT will host the Milwaukee Bucks on 18 November as Vice City, on a court built for the crossover, with a redesigned uniform and a merchandise range already on sale.

The Miami HEAT will spend a night as Vice City. The NBA franchise has confirmed an event it is calling “A Night In Vice City” for 18 November 2026, when it hosts the Milwaukee Bucks at the Kaseya Center — the evening before Grand Theft Auto VI reaches players.

A court built for one night only

The HEAT say the game will be played on special hardwood built for the promotion, with the arena dressed in the pink palette that has carried the game's marketing. The team will wear what it describes as a completely reimagined uniform for the night; the design has been trailed but not yet shown. Tip-off is set for 7pm Eastern, and the fixture is billed as Vice City against the Bucks.

The merchandise is already on sale

A Court Culture range tied to the crossover is available now, in store and online. The first items listed include Vice City T-shirts, a $55 oversized souvenir tee, a pool-service pocket tee made with Duvin and an “I ♥ Vice City” crop. The HEAT say further details, including the activities planned inside the Kaseya Center on the night, will follow.

The fixture behind the marketing

Vice City has been Rockstar Games' fictional reading of Miami since 2002, which makes the crossover less a licensing deal between strangers than a city recognising itself in a game. The event lands on the eve of Grand Theft Auto VI's release, turning a regular-season fixture against Milwaukee into a piece of launch-week marketing with a basketball game in the middle of it.

Our opinion

The obvious reading of this is that it is a stunt with a box score attached, and it is exactly that. What makes it more interesting than a logo swap is who is hosting. The HEAT already sell Miami as a mood, and Vice City is the most recognisable export of that mood, so lending the branding costs the franchise almost nothing while buying it a night on every gaming feed in the world. The timing is the tell: rather than put out a fresh trailer in launch week, the publisher has let a basketball team wear the colours instead. That is a confident way to run a marketing campaign, and it only works if you believe the game will do the shouting for you.
