Genshin Impact Version 7.2 launches on 4 November with a new Snezhnaya story, two playable characters and more events.

Genshin Impact is getting its next major update on 4 November, with Version 7.2 — titled Hour of Ruin in English and Shuen e Ochiru Toki (終焉へ墜ちる時) in Japanese — bringing a new story chapter, a new area in eastern Snezhnaya and two playable characters. HoYoverse announced the update on 23 October and released an official trailer alongside the news. 12

What is in Version 7.2

The update opens a new Archon Quest in which representatives of the seven nations gather in Snezhnaya after a call from the Tsaritsa. The group is set to confront a threat described as a crisis that could bring about the end of civilisation. That makes the update a significant story beat for Genshin Impact, rather than a routine event refresh. 1

The eastern part of Snezhnaya will also become available to explore. HoYoverse has not framed the announcement as a full breakdown of every location or quest reward yet, but the new area is tied directly to the update's central story and gives players another part of the cryogenic nation to investigate. 1

Two new characters are joining the roster. Mitiya is a five-star Electro catalyst user, while Valerie is a four-star Electro sword user. Their English names are used here for clarity; the Japanese announcement identifies them as ミティヤ and バレリー. The trailer presents both alongside the wider Snezhnaya storyline, rather than treating them as detached additions. 12

Events and release date

The Archon Quest will be accompanied by a limited-time event that lets players choose one four-star character to invite to their team. Other planned activities include a photography event in Snezhnaya, a mining event in Natlan and an update to Imaginarium Theater, referred to in the Japanese announcement as 星々の幻境. 1

Version 7.2 launches on 4 November across PC, iOS, Android, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. HoYoverse's official trailer gives the clearest early look at the characters and story atmosphere, while the special programme and the publisher's full announcement are expected to provide the remaining event and banner details. 123

Our opinion

This is a properly substantial Genshin Impact update: a new Snezhnaya story, a new explorable region and two characters give it a stronger hook than an event-only patch. The one thing still missing is practical detail around banners and availability, so the trailer is an introduction rather than a complete player guide. Even so, the 4 November date and the Snezhnaya focus make Version 7.2 one of the game's more consequential updates this year.
