Deep Rock Galactic confirms Season 07 and Season 08
Ghost Ship Games has confirmed Season 07, Season 08 and a paid expansion for Deep Rock Galactic, with Contingency Protocol aiming for December 2026.

Deep Rock Galactic is getting a lot more rock and stone. At The Big Break Showcase on 29 September, Ghost Ship Games confirmed that Season 07, Season 08 and a paid expansion DLC are all in production, and that the first of them arrives before the end of the year.
Season 07 is called Contingency Protocol and the studio is aiming for a December 2026 release. In the fiction, the Company has confirmed a surge of gravitational anomalies in and around Hoxxes IV, where geomagnetic poles reverse inside a concentrated area, and has linked the phenomenon to a run of fatal Drop Pod crashes. Mining crews are being sent to the crash sites to conduct forensic analysis.
What Season 07 adds
The headline addition is roughly 20 new Overclocks, with the focus falling on secondary weapons this time. Named examples include Neurotoxin Minelets, Dragonfire Shells and Dismantler Rounds.
The Perk System is finally being revisited. Eleven new perks are being added, some older perks are being reworked, and a new Perk Maintenance system mirrors the existing Weapon Maintenance loop. Once every perk is unlocked, players can spend surplus points on Perk Proficiency slots for small baseline stat buffs, which addresses the pile of unspent points long-term miners have been sitting on.
Season 07 also introduces the Kadoc Inker, a passive cave creature that camouflages itself and inks tattoos onto dwarves. Ghost Ship says the tattoo system has been on the wish list for years.
Two seasons and a paid expansion
The announcement went further than one season. Season 08 is confirmed to follow, and the studio has committed to a paid expansion DLC for the first time, all falling within the next year. Ghost Ship has been careful to label everything shown as work in progress and still subject to change.
There is also something to play right now. Rocktoberfest is live, bringing back the Freihand Tap Cap, the Hunt for Lederhosen assignment and Best Wurst Beer for two weeks.
Our opinion
Deep Rock Galactic has always been the rare live-service game that grows by accretion rather than resets, and this is the clearest statement yet that Ghost Ship intends to keep going rather than move on. A season, another season and a paid expansion is a confident roadmap for a game released in 2020, and the perk rework is the kind of unglamorous plumbing that matters more to long-term players than any new weapon. It is also a relief that the paid content arrives as a genuine expansion rather than a cosmetics-only store. December is a busy month for co-op shooters, but the dwarves have earned the benefit of the doubt.
Deep Rock Galactic is available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
