Cult Vacui arrives on iOS and Android
Cult Vacui brings its time-pressured Scottish island horror adventure to iOS and Android after launching on PC.
Cult Vacui is now available on iOS and Android, bringing Dionous Games and LBRTY Games’ compact point-and-click horror adventure to mobile after its earlier PC release. The game is available through the App Store and Google Play, according to the announcement carried by GamesPress and reported by COGconnected.12
A horror story on Barra
The game is set on the remote Scottish island of Barra in the late 19th century. Players take the role of a caretaker sent to look after the Gladstone family’s summer home, only to discover that a sinister cult has carried out a bloody ritual across the island. The caretaker’s arrival disrupts that ritual, leaving a limited window to prepare for the cult’s final act.12
Every action costs time
Cult Vacui uses a time-management twist to shape its point-and-click puzzles. Exploring, investigating and solving problems all consume time, so players have to decide which clues are worth pursuing before the story moves on. The game also features multiple endings influenced by player decisions, hand-drawn pixel art and an original soundtrack rather than relying solely on jump scares.12
The campaign is designed to take roughly two hours, although its different endings give players a reason to revisit the island. That makes the mobile release a particularly neat fit for short sessions: it is a self-contained horror story, but one that still leaves room for experimentation on a second playthrough.
Our opinion
A mobile launch is a sensible next step for Cult Vacui. Its short runtime and deliberate, puzzle-led structure should suit phones better than a sprawling horror game would, while the time pressure gives it a clear hook beyond simply bringing an existing PC release to another screen. The important question for mobile players will be how comfortably the point-and-click controls translate to touch, but the underlying format looks well matched to quick, atmospheric sessions.
