Cassette Beasts 2002 brings a new monster-collecting mystery to London in March 2027

The cassette is back, and this time it is taking us to a very different version of London. Raw Fury and Bytten Studio have announced Cassette Beasts 2002, a new monster-collecting RPG set in 2002, where a quiet neighbourhood hides a route into the strange world of Nodnol.

The follow-up is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with a March 2027 release window. Steam lists the game as upcoming, while Raw Fury confirms the console platforms and the return of the series tape-recording creature system.

A new mystery in old London

Players arrive in an ordinary London neighbourhood before being pulled into Nodnol, a land of beasts and high strangeness that exists in the shadow of the real world. The central mystery concerns Westerley, an occultist whose plans threaten both worlds.

You can begin as a new character or import your character from the first Cassette Beasts. The sequel keeps the series wonderfully odd premise: record a beast on a cassette, play the tape back and take its form in battle.

Bytten Studio says more than 250 beasts will be available to record, battle and fuse. Any two beasts can be combined into more than 57,000 fully animated fusion forms, while alchemy can apply buffs, debuffs or elemental changes.

A party with real chemistry

The adventure introduces twelve companions to befriend, recruit and romance, with each relationship offering its own motivations, story and gameplay perks. Deepening those bonds strengthens the fusions available in battle.

Online multiplayer is also part of the plan. Friends can explore Nodnol together, trade tapes, record beasts and fight alongside one another in encounters that include story battles. Steam lists online co-op, online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer, although the practical details remain to be confirmed.

Some beasts can break out of their expected roles, learn from the techniques used against them and return as rogue opponents. That could give repeated fights a welcome sense of consequence instead of making the world feel like a collection of static combat arenas.

Our opinion

Cassette Beasts 2002 has the best kind of sequel hook: it keeps the cassette-powered creature collecting that made the original distinctive, then pushes it into a new setting with an occult mystery, import support and a larger multiplayer pitch.

The 57,000-plus fusion figure is the headline number, but the more promising detail is how the systems connect. Relationships improve fusions, alchemy changes the rules of a fight and rogue beasts can learn from the player. If Bytten Studio makes those ideas meaningful rather than merely numerous, this could be a brilliant second mixtape.

Questions remain around the exact March 2027 date, regional pricing, save imports and cross-platform multiplayer. For now, though, Cassette Beasts 2002 looks like a confident return for one of the most inventive monster-collecting RPGs around.
