A world built out of cards
The premise is a tabletop adventure rather than a deck-builder. Alice wakes up by chance in The Beyond, a dreamlike world assembled from cards, and every step of exploration, interaction and puzzle-solving plays out on the table. New scenes unfold as she collects resources, synthesises items and meets companions of wildly different temperaments.
Progress is deliberately open. Players investigate secrets, take on quests, play cards with the town's residents, scan signals and work through cases, with the store description promising that there is never only one way forward. The cast leans into its personalities too: Alice is a quiet, composed girl who gets flustered more easily than she lets on, while Mery tells the most absurd stories with the most dramatic flair.
Release, demo and platforms
The Steam listing covers Windows only and is tagged as a single-player adventure with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. It also carries Steam's "playable at your own pace" and "playable without timed input" tags, which is a useful signal for anyone who wants the card puzzles without a timer hanging over them. Hanamiriro develops and 2P Games publishes.
Our opinion
Plenty of games borrow a tabletop look and then hide a conventional RPG underneath it. What makes Alice Nation worth watching is that the cards are the world rather than the interface: scenes, resources and clues are all the same physical stuff, and the town around Alice only exists where the table has been dealt. That is a fragile idea to build a full release on, because a single dud hand can stall the whole thing, and it puts real weight on the writing for Mery and the rest of the cast to keep the absurdity from tipping into noise. The demo is the honest test here, and it is already there to try before committing in October.
