Ace Combat 8 reveals cross-play multiplayer and 100-player airbases
Bandai Namco has detailed cross-play, new co-op modes and 100-player Air Base lobbies ahead of the October launch.

ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE is taking its dogfights online in a much bigger way. Bandai Namco has revealed cross-play multiplayer, 100-player Air Base lobbies and two new co-op modes ahead of the game’s October launch.
The announcement turns the campaign’s high-speed aerial combat into a broader social space, although the exact regional pricing and online requirements remain unconfirmed.
What's actually going on
Bandai Namco says online play supports cross-play across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The virtual Air Base lobby can host up to 100 players, giving pilots somewhere to gather between sorties rather than simply throwing everyone straight back into matchmaking.
Co-Op Assault is a PvE mode in which two teams of four compete for high scores. Co-Op Warfare also features two teams of four, but adds NPC units and a PvPvE structure.
The publisher also plans limited-time Scramble and Emergency Sortie missions. The announcement confirms the modes and their planned presence, but does not establish a complete post-launch schedule.
Deluxe Edition owners receive early access from 28 September 2026, while the full launch is scheduled for 2 October 2026. The multiplayer announcement does not state standalone pricing or region-specific online requirements.
Why you should care
Air combat games live or die by the feeling of being in a larger conflict. A 100-player lobby cannot make every sortie exciting by itself, but it gives Ace Combat 8 a stronger sense of being an event rather than a sequence of isolated missions.
The co-op modes also offer a useful middle ground. PvE gives friends a way to work together without immediately being fed to an expert squadron, while PvPvE adds enough chaos to make coordination matter. Two teams of four is small enough for communication and large enough for someone to make a spectacular mistake.
Cross-play matters because a multiplayer game needs a healthy player pool. With PlayStation, Xbox and PC included, Bandai Namco is at least avoiding the usual problem of dividing pilots by platform before the first missile has been fired.
Our opinion
This is the multiplayer information Ace Combat 8 needed. The 100-player Air Base sounds like a proper social hub rather than a menu wearing a flight jacket, while the two co-op modes give the online side more purpose than simple competitive dogfights.
The important test will be whether those lobbies and modes stay busy after launch. For now, the structure looks promising, especially with full cross-play. Recommendation: keep an eye on the Deluxe Edition if you already know you want to fly early, but wait for regional pricing and the final online details before committing.
