Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection brings back translucent green nostalgia for $899.99
The individually numbered Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition includes Halo: Campaign Evolved, launches on 13 November and costs $899.99 in the US.
Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection, a translucent OG Green Xbox Series X bundle designed to celebrate a quarter-century of Xbox hardware, games and questionable arguments about which console had the better launch lineup.
The collection includes the individually numbered Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console, a matching Special Edition Wireless Controller and a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved. It launches on 13 November 2026 for an eye-watering $899.99 MSRP in the United States.
A translucent green Series X with a bonus Halo remake
The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition uses a translucent OG Green design with anniversary details hidden throughout the hardware. Each console is individually numbered with a unique engraving, turning the machine into a collector’s item rather than merely the black box under the television.
Every console also includes a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved, described by Xbox as a faithful but modernised remake of the original Halo campaign. That is a substantial bonus, although buyers are still paying a premium for the shell, the number on the back and the privilege of explaining to visitors that it is not an old Xbox in a very clean case.
The controller launches separately
The Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller is available separately, with pre-orders open now in select markets. It launches on 20 October and uses the same translucent OG Green styling, with nostalgic design details inspired by Xbox’s history.
Xbox has not included a separate price for the controller in the announcement. Regional pricing and availability will vary, so buyers will need to check the Microsoft Store or participating retailers in their market.
Pre-orders and availability
Some Xbox fans were invited by email to pre-order the collection on 26 August. General pre-orders opened in select markets on 27 August at 7 a.m. PDT, while supplies last.
Xbox is limiting pre-orders to one collection per customer. The console launches on 13 November 2026, with pricing outside the US set by market and retailer.
Our opinion
The translucent green design is a proper nostalgia hit, and the individually numbered console gives the collection more personality than another limited edition covered in a logo and a few lines of marketing waffle. Including Halo: Campaign Evolved is also a smart move: at least the box comes with something substantial to play.
But $899.99 is an astonishing amount for a Series X, even one dressed for a birthday party. The Halo download does not magically turn the hardware into a new generation, and the collector appeal will do most of the heavy lifting here.
This is for committed Xbox fans who want a display piece and have already decided that ordinary black plastic is beneath them. Everyone else should buy a standard Series X, pick up Halo: Campaign Evolved separately if it earns a place on the wishlist, and spend the considerable difference on games.
The controller is probably the sweet spot. It offers the same visual nostalgia without requiring an £700-plus financial sacrifice once regional pricing is applied. The console is lovely; the price is not. Xbox’s 25th birthday has arrived with cake, confetti and a bill large enough to require its own financing plan.
