WORLD OF HORROR has received its free 1.2 update, AS BELOW SO ABOVE, adding new gods, characters, scenarios and other content to the cosmic-horror RPG. The update is available now for owners on Steam, GOG and itch.io, according to the game's official Steam Community announcement.1

What the update adds

The headline additions are two new Old Gods, IKT-YOSIS and the War for Shiokawa, alongside three new playable characters, including Kiriko and Satoshi. The update also introduces Scenario Mode, with the Forest of Fear / Tapes of Tragedy scenario featuring Makoto. That gives returning players another structured way into the game's investigations rather than simply repeating the existing mystery pool.

The announcement also lists enhanced Steam Workshop modding tools, more events, enemies, items, spells, curses and injuries, plus balance changes, quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. In other words, this is a content-heavy free update rather than a small maintenance patch.

Platforms and the console wait

AS BELOW SO ABOVE is available on Windows and macOS in the base game's supported languages. The official announcement says console versions are coming in 2027, but it does not provide a more specific date or a region-by-region rollout. The update does not change the game's price: it is free for existing owners.

The timing makes sense for a game built around repeat investigations and unsettling variations on its 1-bit horror formula. New characters and scenario rules can change how players approach the same oppressive setting, while the extra tools and events give the community more room to experiment. The console version remains a separate wait, so players on those platforms should not read today's PC and Mac release as a wider launch.

Our opinion

This looks like the sort of substantial free update that can pull WORLD OF HORROR back into the conversation without pretending it is a new game. Two Old Gods, three characters and a dedicated Scenario Mode are meaningful additions to a roguelite structure that thrives on replayability. The lack of a console date is frustrating, but the 2027 window is at least clear enough to set expectations. For PC and Mac owners, AS BELOW SO ABOVE is an unusually generous reason to revisit Shiokawa.

The update is live now on Steam, GOG and itch.io. Console editions are planned for 2027, with further timing still to be announced.
