Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition are now available on modern platforms, giving Disney and Pixar fans two different ways to revisit the franchise’s gaming history. The releases cover Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, with a double pack also available. 12

Two very different Toy Story returns

Toy Story: Retro Roundup! is the archival collection. Digital Eclipse has assembled five games across 11 console and handheld versions: Toy Story, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!, Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Toy Story Racer and A Bug’s Life. The collection also includes a virtual museum with development documents, vintage photography, interviews and a music player covering the included games. 1

The collection adds modern conveniences without replacing the original material. Rewind lets players correct missed jumps and other mistakes, while save and load options, Practice Mode and clearer instructions make the older games easier to approach. Rex’s Cheat Codes can unlock options such as extra lives, invincibility, characters and levels.

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition takes a different route, bringing the 2010 film’s game back with improved visuals, resolution and performance, including support for up to 4K and 60 frames per second on compatible hardware. Story Mode follows Woody, Buzz and Jessie through film-inspired set pieces, while local co-op lets a second player join the adventure. 2

Woody’s Roundup returns

The Complete Edition’s biggest draw is Toy Box Mode, the Wild West sandbox from the original release. Players can explore Woody’s Roundup, complete missions, earn gold and customise the town with buildings, decorations and outfits. The new edition also brings back previously version-specific content, including Emperor Zurg in Toy Box Mode and four extra Theme Packs.

Availability and pricing

Atari and Digital Eclipse have priced Toy Story: Retro Roundup! at £24.99, while Toy Story 3 Complete Edition costs £11.66. The two-game double pack is listed at £33.49. Prices can vary by storefront and region, so check the relevant platform store before buying. 3

The timing also marks 30 years of Toy Story. Rather than treating the two releases as interchangeable, the launch offers a choice: Retro Roundup! is aimed at players curious about the franchise’s early licensed games, while Toy Story 3 Complete Edition restores a larger modern adventure built around its sandbox mode.

Our opinion

This is a stronger launch than a simple pair of ports suggests. Retro Roundup! preserves an unusually broad slice of Pixar game history and adds the sort of museum material that gives a retro collection context. Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, meanwhile, has the clearer appeal for anyone who wants a full adventure rather than an archive. The two releases complement each other, making the double pack a neat snapshot of how Toy Story games changed across three decades.
