Pokemon Pokopia’s Pumpkaboo Halloween event is now live
Pokemon Pokopia’s Halloween event runs until November 1, with Pumpkaboo, Pumpkin Candy, seasonal furniture and a chance to befriend Gourgeist.
Pokemon Pokopia’s Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event is now live, giving players a seasonal reason to return to the game. The Halloween event runs from October 17 at 5:00 a.m. until November 1 at 4:59 a.m. local time, according to Nintendo’s official guide. 1
Players can befriend Pumpkaboo, collect Pumpkin Candy and exchange it for midnight-festival furniture and decorations. Nintendo also says that building a habitat with the event furniture may attract Gourgeist, giving the event a second creature to pursue beyond its headline pumpkin-themed guest.
How the event works
The event requires software update 2.0.1, a rebuilt Pokemon Center and the Camouflage move learned from Zorua in Bleak Beach. Once those conditions are met, players should launch the game while connected to the internet and make sure their Nintendo Switch 2 system date is set to the real-world date. 1
Pumpkaboo can be found near the Pokemon Center. After listening to its request, players use camouflage to surprise approaching Pokemon and earn Pumpkin Candy. That currency can then be spent at the Pokemon Center on seasonal furniture and decorations. The final step is to use those items to create a habitat where Gourgeist can appear.
The event is not available on Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin. Nintendo also notes that befriended Pokemon remain in the player’s town after the event ends, so the seasonal content has a small permanent reward rather than disappearing entirely when the Halloween window closes.
Multiplayer has a few restrictions. Link Play requires Palette Town, and the event cannot be played in Spectator Mode. Players joining multiplayer should speak to Pumpkaboo and receive the event details before starting Link Play.
Our opinion
This is a tidy seasonal event rather than a major expansion, but it has the right ingredients for a live-service-style return visit: a clear deadline, collectible currency, themed furniture and a creature that can remain in town afterwards. The camouflage gimmick also gives the event more character than a simple shop refresh. The main catch is that the event’s requirements are fairly specific, so new players may need to progress through the opening areas before they can join in.
For Pokemon Pokopia players who have already rebuilt the Pokemon Center and learned Camouflage, the event looks worth visiting early rather than leaving it until the final day. Nintendo’s guide is the primary source for the dates, requirements and restrictions; the originating report provides the initial notice that the event had gone live. 1 2
