New Witcher book starring Geralt targeted for completion by 2027
Andrzej Sapkowski says his next Witcher book should be finished by the end of 2027, with Geralt expected to return.
The next Witcher book is on course to be completed by the end of 2027, according to author Andrzej Sapkowski. The announcement points to another story centred on Geralt of Rivia, although the writer has not revealed its title, plot or publication date. 1
Sapkowski shared the timetable during a convention appearance in Poland, with the report relayed by Witcher news site Redanian Intelligence. The same account says he rejected the idea of writing a Witcher book focused on Yennefer, while continuing to favour Geralt as the character at the centre of his fiction. 2
That does not mean readers should expect a finished novel in 2027. “Completed” describes the writing target, not the point at which a manuscript has been edited, translated, printed and released internationally. The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens arrived in Poland in late 2024 before its English-language release in 2025, so a similar gap could put an English edition well after the Polish launch.
The new book’s place in Geralt’s timeline is also unknown. Crossroads of Ravens followed a younger Geralt during one of his earliest adventures, leaving plenty of room for Sapkowski to explore either another formative episode or a later point in the witcher’s life. The author has previously described the series’ timeline as flexible enough to support more stories without turning every unexplored year into a fixed promise. 3
Sapkowski has also discussed the possibility of writing more short stories. That matters because Geralt’s literary history began with short fiction before the saga expanded into novels, but there is no confirmation that the next project will take that form. For now, the only firm details are the author, the character and the target for finishing the manuscript.
The news arrives while the wider franchise is busy elsewhere. CD Projekt Red is working on more game content, Netflix has another season of its adaptation in production, and Crossroads of Ravens has established that Sapkowski is still willing to revisit Geralt’s earlier years. None of those projects confirms a connection to the new book.
Our opinion
The interesting part is not simply that Geralt is returning; it is that Sapkowski is keeping the character’s future literary life deliberately narrow. A target to finish the book by the end of 2027 gives readers a useful horizon without pretending that a release date exists. It also leaves the adaptation and game sides of The Witcher free to develop their own versions of the world rather than forcing every new story into a single franchise timetable.
Until Sapkowski announces a title, plot or release plan, this is best understood as a confirmed work in progress rather than a formally announced new adventure. Readers can reasonably expect more Geralt, but everything beyond that remains speculation.
