Nagoshi Studio dissolved as GANG OF DRAGON remains uncertain
Japan’s Official Gazette confirms Nagoshi Studio has been dissolved, leaving the future of its announced action game unclear.
Japan’s Official Gazette confirms that Nagoshi Studio was dissolved following a shareholders’ resolution on 31 October.1 The Tokyo-based company was founded by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator associated with the Like a Dragon series, after he left Sega and joined NetEase.2
The dissolution puts a question mark over GANG OF DRAGON, the studio’s announced action-adventure game. The project remains listed as “Coming soon” on Steam, where its description identifies Nagoshi Studio Inc. as both developer and publisher.3 The store page describes a third-person game set in Shinjuku, with combat, vehicles and a crime drama led by Shin Ji-seong, played by Ma Dong-seok.3
The official notice confirms the company’s legal dissolution, but it does not explain what happens to the game, its staff or its assets. AUTOMATON reports that the project’s future is uncertain and notes that several key staff members had announced departures in the months before the dissolution.2 Those details provide context, not confirmation that GANG OF DRAGON has been cancelled.
For now, the safest conclusion is that the game’s public status has not changed beyond the uncertainty created by its developer’s closure. Steam still lists it as coming soon, and neither the gazette notice nor the store page provides a new release date.13
Our opinion
The most frustrating part is the lack of a clean answer for GANG OF DRAGON. The game had a distinctive pitch and visible production ambitions, but a studio dissolution leaves too many possible outcomes: a transfer, a long delay or a quiet cancellation. Until NetEase or another authorised party explains who controls the project, “coming soon” says very little.
