IAFT Fear Diagnosis free demo launches on Steam

Hinan Games' horror-comedy demo builds a different short stage around each player's fears, with the full game due on 1 December.

IAFT Fear Diagnosis is now available as a free demo on Steam, giving players a short horror-comedy experiment built around their own fears. The full game is planned for 1 December, but the demo is playable now on Windows and Mac.1

The Japanese-developed game, titled Kyououken-shiki Kyoufu Shindan (恐応研式 恐怖診断) in Japanese, begins with a questionnaire from the fictional Fear Applied Technology Research Institute. It then uses the answers to assemble a personalised stage, drawing from fears such as heights, confined spaces, darkness, ghosts, insects and dolls.1

Hinan Games says the possible combinations exceed two million. A run takes around 10 minutes, and repeating the diagnosis changes the stage. Players can also share their subject number so a friend can experience the same fear-based layout.1

The demo follows the same basic sequence as the planned release: reception, diagnosis, stage and result. The game also includes an optional microphone feature that measures how loud a player screams without recording or sending the audio, while settings allow players to remove fears that are too uncomfortable.1

The browser version of the Fear Diagnosis is available separately and takes about three minutes. Its result can be shared on social media, and the subject number can be entered into the game to create a stage based on that diagnosis.1

Hinan Games lists IAFT Fear Diagnosis as a first-person horror comedy for Windows and Mac. The full release is scheduled for 1 December at ¥470, with Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean language support listed in the announcement.12

Our opinion

The demo has a properly newsworthy hook because its horror is meant to be personal rather than merely atmospheric: the questionnaire changes the challenge before the player even reaches the first set-piece. That makes the free trial a useful test of whether the two-million-stage premise creates meaningful variety or just novelty. Its short sessions and shareable subject numbers also give the concept a natural social angle without pretending that every generated stage will be equally frightening.

The details

The free demo is available through the official Steam page, while the browser questionnaire is hosted by Hinan Games. The full release is scheduled for 1 December 2026.
