Gate Guard Simulator brings medieval checks to Steam

Gate Guard Simulator turns castle entry checks, forged documents and bribery into a medieval simulation due on Steam in 2027.

Gate Guard Simulator is taking the document-checking tension of Contraband Police and moving it behind a medieval castle gate. The game is announced for 2027 on PC via Steam, where its official description places players in the boots of a new recruit responsible for deciding who enters the lord’s domain.1

A medieval checkpoint with more than paperwork

Visitors must present documents, and the job is to spot false seals, incorrect details and suspicious cargo before it reaches the fortress.1 The official description also promises tools that fit the setting rather better than a modern scanner: a halberd for checking carts, a plague mask for identifying illness and holy water for dealing with stranger discoveries.1

The premise is recognisable, but the medieval setting gives it a more theatrical edge. The source report describes a castle guard dealing with merchants, nobles and peasants while rules change in response to politics, disease and the demands of the ruler.2 A visitor accepted one day might be refused the next, so checking the latest instructions will matter as much as spotting a forged document.

Lawful service or profitable corruption

Gate Guard Simulator also builds its progression around the choices made at the checkpoint. Players can follow the law, or accept bribes and risk the consequences. Pay can be spent on equipment and improvements, while mistakes and compromises may affect the castle’s safety and the wider fate of the kingdom.2

A demo shown by Edredat during Simu Ops reportedly adds progressively tougher rules, including restrictions on cities, goods and guild certificates.2 That should give the routine of checking papers some welcome escalation rather than turning every visitor into the same puzzle. The demo is also available in French, according to the report.2

Gate Guard Simulator has no release date yet

Gate Guard Simulator is currently listed for 2027 on Steam, with no more precise launch date announced.1 The store page identifies Redox Interactive as developer and Forklift Interactive as publisher.1 For now, the game looks like a watchlist prospect for anyone who enjoys observation-heavy simulations: familiar checkpoint logic, but with plague masks, forged heraldry and the occasional temptation to let a suspicious traveller through.

Our opinion

The medieval angle is doing useful work here. Gate Guard Simulator is not merely repainting a document-checking game; it has a setting where laws, disease, superstition and bribery can all change what a correct decision looks like. The unanswered question is whether its longer campaign can keep those rules interesting beyond the demo. Until a release date arrives, the strongest reason to keep watching is the combination of readable paperwork puzzles and a world that can make every queue at the gate feel politically dangerous.
