Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold will launch on 23 February 2027, with pre-orders opening on 4 November and early access scheduled for 19 February. The announcement also introduces Zephyr, a new physical ranged DPS job that fights with crossbow shots and an avian familiar named Nephele. 1

What Square Enix announced

The expansion news arrived during Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed Zephyr as the second of two new jobs coming with Evercold. Square Enix describes it as a physical ranged DPS role, with Nephele supporting its crossbow attacks. 1

The same presentation confirmed that Evercold will be released for Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam. Square Enix says platform availability and specifications remain subject to change. 1

Pre-orders begin at 9am GMT on Wednesday 4 November 2026. Early access is tentatively set for 9am GMT on Friday 19 February, ahead of the full launch. The expansion's official release date is Tuesday 23 February 2027. 1

Square Enix has not announced prices in the verified UK/EU-facing release. The company says the Collector's Box will be sold in limited quantities through the Square Enix Store, while players can pre-order the digital edition through participating platforms. 1

More than a release date

The Fan Festival presentation also marked Final Fantasy XIV Online passing 35 million registered accounts worldwide. Square Enix showed a full-length Evercold trailer and announced an Evangelion: Ghosts of Desire alliance-raid crossover, alongside new high-difficulty eight-player battles built around selected alliance-raid bosses. 1

The official Zephyr trailer provides the clearest early look at the job's combat identity and its avian companion. 2

Our opinion

This is a meaningful Final Fantasy XIV update rather than a routine date reminder. Zephyr gives the expansion a concrete new playstyle to talk about, while the February launch window gives returning players a firm preparation target. The unanswered questions are the ones that matter for planning: the job's rotation, its party utility and the final price tiers. Until Square Enix publishes those details, the confirmed date and pre-order timetable are the useful news — not speculation about how Zephyr will fit into the existing ranged DPS roster.
