Daisenryaku SSB2 adds two free maps on 29 October

Daisenryaku SSB2 adds a Tsushima scenario and a Goryokaku free-play map in a two-map update arriving on 29 October.

Daisenryaku SSB2 is getting two free maps on 29 October, expanding the long-running modern military strategy game with a new scenario and a fresh free-play battlefield. SystemSoft Beta announced the update for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 through the game's official channels, with the update scheduled for 10:00 JST. 1

The Tsushima scenario

The headline addition is Tsushima Strait Crisis, a scenario built around a fictional attack on northern Tsushima by Chinese and North Korean forces. Players must support the Japan Self-Defence Force garrison on the island while working around a destroyed bridge that makes moving the main ground force north particularly difficult. Ships and aircraft dispatched from Kyushu and Honshu will be central to the counterattack.

The scenario also adds a distinct military roster. Japanese forces can deploy Taigei-class submarines, SH-60K helicopters and Maya-class destroyers, while the opposing side brings Nanchang-class destroyers and the long-range Yingji-21 ballistic missile. The scenario is fictional, but it is clearly designed around the sort of modern hardware and geography that define the series.

A new free-play map

The second map, Invaders from Goryokaku II, shifts the action to Hakodate's famous star-shaped fort. It is a defensive battle against enemies approaching from three directions. Players begin with ample funds, giving them room to exploit the fortifications and surrounding moat before launching a counterattack.

The map's defensive tools include Patriot air-defence missiles, F-15J Eagles, X-2 Shinshin aircraft and F-2 fighters. An AH-64 Apache can change roles through equipment swaps, making it useful during the transition from holding the line to pushing back.

What comes next

This is the latest in a run of monthly map additions, but it is not the end of Daisenryaku SSB2's support. SystemSoft Beta says another scenario is planned for 2027. Season 2 is due to begin on 26 November with a larger free update, a campaign-focused Power-Up Kit DLC and additional Australia and India content. The official product page also lists new rules, weapons and difficulty options for that update. 2

Our opinion

Two free maps are a sensible way to keep a strategy game active, particularly when they offer different kinds of play rather than simply adding another symmetrical battlefield. Tsushima Strait Crisis appears built around logistics and combined-arms pressure, while Goryokaku II should reward careful defensive positioning. The more interesting test will be whether the upcoming Season 2 systems deepen that contrast instead of merely adding more units to manage.
