Assetto Corsa EVO adds free roam mode on December 9
Assetto Corsa EVO’s update 0.10 will open a 1:1-scale slice of the Eifel region to free-roam driving on December 9.
505 Games and KUNOS Simulazioni will add a free-roam mode to Assetto Corsa EVO on December 9, giving the racing sim its first open-world-style driving area as part of update 0.10. The game remains in Early Access, so this is an expansion of its current roadmap rather than a full-launch announcement. 1
A larger road to drive
The update will recreate selected districts of Germany’s Eifel region at 1:1 scale, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, nearby villages, local roads and regional landmarks. That gives Assetto Corsa EVO a very different shape from a conventional track-based racing game: players will be able to link circuits and ordinary roads into a broader driving space rather than simply selecting another isolated event. 1
The first area is designed around exploration as much as lap times. The announcement says it will support changing weather, day-and-night cycles, AI road traffic and optional driving activities, including Time Attack events integrated into the open-world environment. Those systems should make the new area useful for both relaxed cruising and more structured challenges, although the exact activity list may expand as development continues. 1
What update 0.10 changes
Assetto Corsa EVO is built around KUNOS Simulazioni’s physics and graphics technology, with vehicle behaviour, weather and track detail positioned as the series’ main selling points. The Steam description also highlights VR, triple-screen support and a growing Early Access line-up of cars, tracks and game modes. Free roam therefore looks less like a separate side mode and more like a test of how well the simulation’s systems work away from a single racing circuit. 2
The December 9 date applies to the free-roam release described in the announcement. It does not mean the game has left Early Access, and it does not confirm when version 1.0 will arrive. Players should also expect the mode’s scope to change as KUNOS adds more content and tunes the wider game. 12
Our opinion
This is the sort of Early Access update that can give Assetto Corsa EVO a clearer identity. A driving simulator already has plenty of reasons to chase faster lap times, but a detailed Eifel environment adds room for slower, more personal play: learning a road, testing a car in changing conditions or simply taking in the landscape between events. The idea will live or die on traffic behaviour, road variety and how much there is to do after the first few sightseeing laps. December 9 is a meaningful step, but not the finish line.
