Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches tomorrow with a new story trailer

Asobo Studio’s new A Plague Tale adventure takes Sophia to a cursed Minoan island ahead of its 27 August launch.

Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio have premiered the launch trailer for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, just ahead of the game’s release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The game launches on 27 August 2026 and will be available day one through Xbox Game Pass. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere.

A different kind of plague tale

Set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy follows Sophia, a young plunderer on the run and determined to uncover the secrets of her past.

Her journey takes her to Minotaur Island, where deadly trials, ancient puzzles and a pursuing army are waiting. Somewhere beneath its labyrinth lies a terrifying presence connected to the Macula and a long-buried curse.

The game shifts between Sophia’s medieval era and the ancient Minoan period, with the two timelines linked by their characters, battles and discoveries. Asobo Studio is using that structure to explore another corner of the world established by A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem.

The result is not another story about Amicia and Hugo. Instead, it expands the series’ mythology through a new protagonist, a new historical setting and a mystery that reaches back thousands of years.

Combat, puzzles and something in the dark

Resonance combines dynamic melee combat, exploration, environmental puzzles and narrative-driven adventure.

Sophia will need to rely on agility, quick reactions and improvised tricks while navigating the island. The combat system includes parries and powerful strikes, with the game placing more emphasis on direct fighting than the stealth-focused moments that defined parts of the previous entries.

The island contains puzzles built around a stolen Minoan sphere. Players can manipulate light through mechanisms designed by Daedalus, using the device to unlock paths and uncover the secrets hidden beneath the island.

There is also a supernatural threat stalking Sophia through the island’s depths. The creature appears to track her movements and force her to keep moving, hiding and improvising rather than relying on brute force.

A global launch

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will also be available day one through Xbox Game Pass.

The game supports 11 languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese.

A Collector’s Box is available to pre-order across Europe, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the end of October. The original score by Olivier Derivière is available on streaming platforms.

Our opinion

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is taking a sensible approach to expanding the franchise. Rather than stretching the original story further, Asobo Studio is using a new character and a much older setting to explore different ideas around the Macula and the mythology that surrounds it.

The Minoan setting is the most promising part. It gives the series a visual identity beyond medieval France, while the two-era structure could connect ancient legend to Sophia’s more immediate survival story.

The shift towards more active swordplay is also a gamble worth watching. A Plague Tale has always been at its best when its characters feel vulnerable, so the challenge will be making Sophia capable without turning her into a one-woman army who solves every problem by hitting it with a sword.

If the combat, puzzles and supernatural horror work together, Resonance could prove that the series has more stories to tell without simply repeating the same tragedy with a different family.
